Therefore, this research paper will focus on the role of the body in civil resistance movements in regards to the tactic of self-immolations and the Tibetan struggle for autonomy since 1950. The role of the body in civil resistance movements has been of great interest within social and political thought nevertheless, the connection to the tactic of self-immolation has not yet been focused upon. However, this research paper will view this issue from another angel to analyse the message of those who self-burn till death. Most research in relation to the self-immolations has been sought to find reasons for and tried to understand why these people have chosen to sacrifice their lives and, subsequently, what domestic implications have followed. Since 2009, 131 Tibetans have chosen the tactic of self-immolation as an act of political protest against a repressive Chinese regime.
